Forever 21 Ombre Nail Kit Review

Alright, I’m doing a nail polish review. This is real earth-shattering stuff.

It’s nice to get your nails professionally done if you can. If you’re trying to be thrifty, getting good at doing your own nails will save you a lot of money. Anyway, even though I tend to have a slightly shaky hand, I like to do my own nails. YouTube tutorials have helped me a bunch. I usually change the color every week or two.

This was a gift from my good friend, who saw this kit at Forever 21 and thoughtfully felt that it belonged with me! Thank you so much again, Lenya!!

In the past:
My experience with Forever 21’s nail polish line, Love & Beauty, has been disappointing. Love & Beauty has a great color selection and at around $2.50 per bottle they are very inexpensive. A couple years ago, I picked three of my favorite nude shades: one beige, one pink and one taupe. I tried all of them multiple times and found the paint gloopy, sludgy and slow to dry. It was basically unusable and, in my aggravation, I threw them all away within months of buying them. I chalked it up to a cheap, poorly made nail polish. Apparently, I could have fixed this by thinning it out – hindsight is 20/20.

This time around:
Since my last fiasco with the brand, I’ve been sticking with Essie nail polish for reliable polish that doesn’t gloop and comes in beautiful colors. Essie, however, is much pricier at $8 per bottle. Anyway, because this kit was a gift, I gave the Love & Beauty line a second chance.

This week, I tried the two colors furthest to the right together:

  1. a strong, opaque teal
  2. a clear polish with small teal sparkles (used on top of the first color)

Have a look:

I have been surprised and impressed at how the color turned out, how fast it dried and how easily the polish coated my nails without glooping. After a few days, the paint on one of my nails finally chipped. It took another day for more nail polish to chip. So, it is chipping, but I didn’t put a real top coat. Not too shabby.

Rating:The criteria will be rated on a 1 to five scale of.. uh.. um.. uh.. well, I found these cottonball-looking emojis ⛳. Let’s go with that.

Drying speed:                                 ⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳
Chipping within first week:                        ⛳⛳
Color:                                               ⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳
Coating/thinness                           ⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳
Cost:                                                 ⛳⛳⛳⛳⛳
Average:                                            ⛳⛳⛳⛳

In conclusion, I am breaking every literary rule by starting my conclusion paragraph with “in conclusion.” I believe Forever 21 has improved the formula for their Love & Beauty nail polish line. This is awesome because the line is still very inexpensive AND cute. I would buy and use this brand again – maybe I’ll even give those nude tones another shot.

Let me know what you think in the comments below. Thanks for reading my first nail polish review!
